Root is the original and irreducible element in which the meaning of words, considered from the historical angle, is concentrated. It is the root that contains the general meaning, common to the words of the same etymological family. On the other hand, Affixes are secondary elements (usually without autonomous life) that join to a radical or theme to form derived words.
