Apart from defense, the Great Wall included border controls, and  regulation of goods. After Qin dynasty, other dynasties had used it, to maintain their territories.

Unlike the alphabet that we use today, hieroglyphics represent what?

Right now my class is learning about Egypt. Hieroglyphics represented over at least 300 letters. there were no vowels in there language. Hieroglyphics are depicted as pictures, which I believe is called "cuneiform" writing.
