  • The Panamanian Revolt against Columbia rose on the 3rd of November 1903. This was supported by the Panama Canal Company which hoped to build the Panama Canal across the Isthmus of Panama.
  • The US in order to possess Panama Canal wanted to enter into relation with the newly formed de facto Panama Republic
  • So on the 6th November 1903, it recognized the newly formed Panama Government by signing the Hay-Herran Treaty.
  • The Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty which was signed between the Panama Republic and the US on the 18th November 1903 gave exclusive rights for permanent possession of the Panama Canal for the US in exchange of financial aid to the Panama government.
