Explain why puritanism appealed to many people living during the early modern european period
DIA [1.3K]

The early modern European period occurred roughly from the 1450's until the 1700's.

Puritanism arose during the late 1500's and appealed to those that wanted to "purify" the English Church and English culture. Puritans lived strictly by the Bible and wanted to do away with the former glitz, glamour, ceremony, rituals, and riches of the Catholic Church. They believed that the combination of church and government, the King was the head of the country's government and church, would lead to tyrannical rule.

Also, Englishmen wanted to be purely "English" with no ties to Spain or its Catholicism. This included religion. The common man often could agree with this anti-Spanish/Catholic and stance wanting to break ties with their Spanish rivals after the defeat of the Spanish Armada by the British Navy.

During the early European/Elizabethan time period Catholics and the Catholic clergy were not to be trusted with priests being executed or tortured and their supporters fined or imprisoned.

If you had come to America to practice your Quaker religious beliefs, chances are you would have settled in
valentina_108 [34]
If you had come to America to practice your Quaker religious beliefs, chances are you would have settled in Pennsylvania. The father of William Penn was a Quaker and a charter was granted to William Penn by the crown of England to name a colony after his father. Pennsylvania is now just 14 miles away in the south of Philadelphia. This is the main reason why it is correct to feel that Pennsylvania is the place to practice Quaker religious beliefs for any person.

A) Explain at least two actions of the Reagan administration to oppose communism.
GaryK [48]
The Reagan Doctrine was Reagan's foreign policy during his presidency. The goal of this policy was to aid individuals all over the world in their fight against communism. Two examples of this include:

1) The United States giving aid to Cambodian citizens who were resisting the communist ruler of the country.

2) Reagan gave support to the Contras in their fight for freedom from a corrupt government in Nicaragua.

Gorbachev's policies of perestroika and glasnost allowed for less government control of the economy, more freedoms for the individual citizens, and the ability of the newspapers to print what they want about the government without fear of retribution. All three of these factors helped in ending the communist system in the Soviet Union, as the government significantly decreased their role in Russian society.
