Woodrow Wilson was an idealist, but he also understood the limitations of his ambitious desires for a better world. His Fourteen Points, formulated in 1918,  did not include a call for the supression of colonial empires as Western Allies France and Britain would not have accepted it at all, each possessing large colonial empires. Such a scenario was unrealistic in 1918.
