If an adverb modifies a verb, where should you generally place it in a sentence?

It generally goes before the verb.If there is an auxilliary verb Ex to be or modal verbs,then it goes between the  auxilliary and the main verb
I always get up at 6,
But with to be it's different
I am always here at 6 
And with modal  verbs
I can always answer the teacher's questions

If an adverb modifies a verb, generally you should place it before the verb. If there is a helping verb you can place it between the helping verb and the main verb.
