These are all words used for comparisons, in English to compare something we always use "than" along with an adjective either finishing in "-er" or using "more" before the adjective. Spanish is somewhat similar, you use "que" instead of "than" and "más" instead of "more", but you can also use the opposite form to express a negative comparison, using "menos que".
