How did the U.S. motivate so many people to buy war bonds?

They had political cartoons, which was one influence
For example, there was one cartoon with a man and his family and the kids ask, “ Daddy, what did you do during the war?”
Now of course these people were civilians and couldn’t join the war effort, but they could at least buy war bonds.
