Dorothy Parker was an American poet, writer, critic and satirist in the early years of the 20th century. Parker had a difficult childhood, as her mother and stepmother died when she was young, and she did not get along with her father. An event that added to this tragedy was the fact that Martin Rothschild, Parker's uncle, perished in the sinking of the Titanic.
