Three types of formal messages are: upward (message from employee to someone higher in the company, perhaps a boss), downward (message from someone in charge to personnel lower in rank), lateral (message from one employee to another of the same rank). Examples of formal messages might include: an employee requesting time off (upward), a new dress code policy (downward), memo from one employee to another (in same position) discussing project (lateral). An informal grapevine message is the most common type of message in an organization and happens when information is shared word of mouth from employee to employee in an unofficial manner.

In the following excerpt from "Debtors’ Prisons (2)," author Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) responds to comments made about a letter
astra-53 [7]

In the excerpt shown above, we can see that the author made extensive use of the rhetorical device called logos. The logos is a rhetorical device used by the authors to invoke a speech based on logic.

We can see the use of logos in the above excerpt, because the author shows that it is more logical that debtors are loose and not locked in chains. This is because when debtors are arrested, they are unable to work for the country, generate wealth and, consequently, generate power for the nation. In other words, debtors have the potential to be useful to the country, but when they are imprisoned, that potential is totally wasted and ends up weakening the nation.

Therefore, governments must establish policies that prevent debtors, who offer no danger to society, from being punished for their debts in a useful way for the country, through work and income generation.

Why might mind-reading lead to miscommunications?
DaniilM [7]
If you spend to much time trying to think about what other people are thinking whether it’s about you or something else it can lead to missed assumptions. When you assume too often without knowing if something is true or not it can often mess up your brain and lead to failure to communicate (miscommunications)! For example if you thought (or assumed) your best friend didn’t want to be your friend anymore you wouldn’t want to talk to her/him: miscommunication. Sorry if I’m wrong
