The eventual fate for our open universe is believed to be either universal heat death, the "Big Freeze", or what can be considered the "Big Rip". This is where the acceleration caused by dark energy eventually becomes so strong that it completely overwhelmes the gravitational, eltromagetic and our strong binding forces.
