The correct answer is D) Citizens were silenced under harsh dictatorial rule.

Mexican citizens’ lives were affected by the leadership of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna in that citizens were silenced under harsh dictatorial rule.

General Antonio López de Santana was a prominent figure in Mexican politics in times of the Independence movement. He played a key role in the "Ejército Trigarante" (Three guarantees Army), led by General Agustín De Iturbide when México defeated the Spanish Army and became an independent nation.

However, once he got to power, he became a dictator, exerting total power and control over Mexican citizens, whose rights and liberties were limited and then suppressed.

Those "small pebbles" could be sand, but you'd have to emphasize just how small they are -- one grain of sand is just that: a grain
