Bonjour !

Quelle heure est-il? (what time is it ? )

Use "Il est______ heure," to tell the hour.

To say it is five o'clock, you would say "Il est cinq (5) heures"

You must always add "heure" after the hour.

- quarter hours ("quart"). You add these after "heure" along with "et" (the French word for "and").

Thus you could say 5:30 in French as, "il est cinq heures et demie."

Use "moins" to denote the minutes until an hour.

Say "il est midi" for "It is noon" and say "il est minuit" for "it is midnight."

You can add minutes to this. For example, if it is 12:20, you can say "il est midi vingt".

French does not use "AM" and "PM," ( use the 24-hour system.)

ex : 8:00PM would be 20:00, or "vingt heures pile"

Answer:

How to express French time via the 12-hour clock. Time is typically expressed on a 12-hour clock. In French, you say the hour then the minutes, and it’s a little different from the way it’s done in English. To tell a time on the hour in French, use il est + [number] + heure(s). For example: il est deux heures (it is two o’clock).
