Madame Loisel's decison to marry Monsieur Loisel just shows the dissastifaction in her life as the wife of a clerk in the Ministry of Education, and sets the tone for what the remainder of her life will be. And also seeing that she is so very unhappy in this marriage because of her husband and overlooks his greed and satisfaction, because he's really just using her and neither of them are happy.

Arrogance--  the protagonist saying he's the best in the world
Outrage -- OMG he did what?!
Melancholy-- I feel sad
foreboding -- small action hinting at a possible future event

I like answer D, the passage is a bit suspenseful, low clicking noise that only the protagonist can here, that is gradually getting louder. Feels like this small action is leading to something bigger.
