Many of these concepts derived from Calvinism in which humans were sinners and that faith alone would be your salvation. During this time period there was a decline in the Christian faith and many secular ideas from the Age of Reason contributed to this decline. Preachers like Jonathan Edwards or George Whitefield would preach to people about religion and would even preach to the slaves and the Native Americans in the U.S.

This ultimately led the colonies of America to unite together and to help form the "american identity" and encouraged nationalism and individual rights through the time period Britain was the ruler of these colonies. But the most important cause was that it influenced the Revolutionary War.
