Solve the equation 18x - 9 = 5+ 12x

Mathematics

8 0

Answer:

x = 2\frac{1}{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Try to get x alone on one side

 Add nine to both sides

18x - 9 = 5 + 12x

     + 9 + 9

Subtract 12x from both sides

  18x = 14 + 12x

   -12x          -12x

Now that you have x alone on one side divide both sides by 6

    6x = 14

\frac{6x}{6} = \frac{14}{6}

x = 2 \frac{2}{6} or 2 \frac{1}{3}

You would set up a proportion 6/4 = 30/x you then can do what i call the fish and multiply 30 by 4 and the divide by 6 which will give you x which your answer is 20

The function y = -16x2 + 1500 gives a parachute jumper's height y in feet
earnstyle [38]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

so the question is asking about the time from 1500 feet to 1100 feet.  How long did they fall, w/o a parachute.    aka   "freefall"   so,   at 1500 feet the jumper is really at time zero.   so, plug in to the formula

1100 = -16x^{2} +1500

( x represents seconds so i'll change it to t so we know it's time )

1100 = -16t^{2} + 1500

now we can solve for t  , to see how long the jumper falls

-400 = - 16t^{2}      ( subtracting 1500 from both sides of equation )

25 = t^{2}      ( dividing both sides by  -16 )

oh.. look at how nice that turns out.. :)

\sqrt{25} = t  ( take the square root on both sides )

5 = t

the jumper fell for 5 seconds to get to 1100 feet

The price of a pack of kitchen rolls is reduced by 1/6
sweet-ann [11.9K]

Answer: 1.44

Step-by-step explanation:

(original price) - (1/6 of the original price) = 1.20

If you let x = original price, then the equation is:

x - 1/6 x = 1.20

5/6 x = 1.20

x = 1.44

the original price is £1.44.

I hope this helps!
