Because the Texans were so hungry for revenge, Santa Ana was released in the United States. Years later, while Texas was seeking annexation to the United States, Santa Anna became the dictator of Mexico again. He attempted to take Texas back (as Mexico renounced the Treaties at Velasco) however he was unsuccessful. He died in Mexico City, June 21, 1876.
