The goal of the New Deal, by Franklin Roosevelt, was to provide relief, recovery and reform. <u>Conservatives had always believed in a small government with low taxes and no handouts; government should NOT interfere in the economy and the market would fix itself. </u>However, the redistribution of wealth was part of the New Deal which was what the conservatives feared the most. <u>They believed that the New Deal would make the government too powerful. </u>
