The major theatres of the Russo-Japanese War were:

 • Port Arthur;
 • Liaodong Peninsula;
 • Mukden;
 • Yellow sea;
 • Tsushima Straits;
 • along the railway line from Port Arthur to Harbin.

The Russians were constantly looking for a warm water port in the Pacific Ocean, not just for maritime trade but also for their navy. They had already established the Pacific seaport of Vladivostok, it was the only active Russian port. But it was only operational during the summer season. Port Arthur, on the other hand, would give them the chance to be operational all year. Negotiations didn't work between the Tsar's government and Japan, so the Japanese chose to go to war to maintain exclusive control over Korea and Manchuria.

Although the Japanese won multiple battles, Tsar Nicholas II believed Russia would win the war. He chose to remain engaged in the war, but the Japanese continued to defeat the Russians. The war concluded when both countries signed the Treaty of Portsmouth, mediated by Theodore Roosevelt, president of the US. Needless to say, Japan won the war.

How did the poor citizens of New York City respond to draft laws?
Andre45 [30]
The poor citizens of New York City responded to the draft laws by instigating riots that lasted for four days.

They were in vehement opposition to the military draft acts that allow men from wealthy families to pay a certain amount so avoid being called into service. Also, African-Americans are not considered to be American citizens; thus, they are exempted from being called into military service. Because of this, those who can't afford to pay are called to military service leaving their families to fend for themselves during a time of uncertainty and hardship.

KatRina [158]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although the question is incomplete because you forgot to attach the excerpt from "The Origins of the Boxer Uprising" by Joseph W. Esherick, we can comment on the following.

According to Esherick, the Boxer Rebellion became such a famous historical event because it made a group of Chinese young men to have the consciousness of the consequences due China to the Western world influences and the Christian religion that some priest tried to evangelize in China.

In 1900, this group was known as the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists. They didn't like and never accepted the influence of Japan, neither the Western world culture. They started to protest and violently actions like attacking and killing foreign people, Christians, and destroyed private property.
