When a continental and oceanic tectonic plates collide, they create a convergent boundary, and there is a subduction zone, where the heavier oceanic plate goes beneath the lighter continental plate.

Because there's cracks between the two plates, the high pressure, temperature, and magma from the mantle, manage to penetrate the crust and get to the surface, when they start to form volcanoes.
