Compare Mr. White's feelings about the monkey's paw when he makes the first wish,
Anna35 [415]

Answer:

His attitude in making all three wishes reveal that he had changed from being expectant (first wish) to being scared (second and third wish).

Explanation:

The short story "The Monkey's Paw" by W. W. Jacobs evolve around the wish-granting item of a monkey's paw that was acquired by Mr. White, the protagonist of the story. The story delves into the themes of myth, superstition, greed, and death.

After acquiring the monkey's paw from Sergeant-Major Morris, Mr. White did not really have any belief in the story of the wish-granting ability. But pressurized by his wife and son, he decided to "test" the charm and wished for <em>"two hundred pounds"</em> so that they can pay off the mortgage for the house. He was at first skeptical about the wish coming true but when he got the right amount, though, at the cost of his son's life, he began to get scared.

His second wish was to bring his son back, again after being pressurized by his wife. To him, the first wish was <em>"A c-c-coincidence"</em> and even stated <em>"It is foolish and wicked"</em> to wish for another thing, that too, for his son to be brought back alive after the gruesome way he died. And when the knocking started, he was petrified for what was to be at the door. The line <em>'"A rat,” said the old man shakily – "a rat. It passed me on the stairs."' </em>reveals the real nature of the old man when he hears the knocking at the door.

And then, after realizing that it was probably their dead son coming alive again, Mr. White<em> "was on his hands and knees feeling around wildly on the floor in search of the paw"</em> so that he can make his third wish and make <em>"the thing"</em> at the door go away. The very nature of addressing whoever/ whatever was at the door as<em> "the thing"</em> suggests that whatever was there is something that isn't natural. Mr. White's frantic reaction and wish to make the knocking stop shows his scared reaction to the wishes he had made.

Rahim: As-Salaam-Alaikum; how are you, Jamal?

Jamal: Wa-Alaikum-Salaam; I am fine and what about you?

Rahim: I am also fine by the grace of Almighty Allah. But you did not talk to me for many days. I don’t know why.

Jamal: Actually, My English exam will start after a month. So I am very much worried about it. In fact, I am very weak in written English.

Rahim: English is a foreign language. So, any student may face this problem.

Jamal: How can we face this problem?

Rahim: You know whenever we face any problem, we need a little patience to solve it.

Jamal: I want to discuss the way to solve the problem.

Rahim: English is not our mother tongue. So at first, we are to build up our vocabulary.

Jamal: How can we build up the vocabulary?

Rahim: Word coming is a good system to build up the word stock. It means you will note down the difficult words in a separate copy. After that, consult the dictionary for meaning.

Jamal: Which dictionary is better?

Rahim: Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English is a useful dictionary.

Jamal: I will purchase it. What more do we need to improve English?

Rahim: For English writing, we have to know structural English as well.

Jamal: What book can we read for this purpose?

Rahim: ‘A Practical English Usage’ by Michael Swan is a good English Grammar book. You may consult it.

Jamal: I’ll purchase the book.

Rahim: We must read English regularly and keep writing on some new topics. This is how we can upgrade our creative faculty.

Jamal: Right you are! If we learn vocabulary and grammar properly, they will indeed help us write any topic correctly.

Rahim: Thanks for sharing.

Jamal: You are most welcome. See you tomorrow.

The men Montag meets at the end of the story are "living libraries." How are they preserving the knowledge that their civilizati
kykrilka [37]

Answer:

These living libraries preserve knowledge by studying memory books.

Explanation:

Your question refers to the book Fahrenheit 541 by Ray Bradbury.

These men who are living libraries preserve the knowledge they believe is necessary for the future. It is important that they do this because if they don't, that knowledge will die forever.

They plan to pass the books on to their children, knowing that much of that information will be lost but still very useful.

Each man had a book that he wanted to remember and it was thus that over the years they were setting up an organization.

Let's look at the following quote:

<em>"And when the war's over, some day, some year, the books can be written again, the people will be called in, one by one, to recite what they know and we'll set it up in type until another Dark Age, when we might have to do the whole thing over again. "</em>
