After the end of WW II most of the African countries that still hadn't gained independence started demanding it from their colonial governments. This is was due to the fact that most of the colonial countries were significantly weakened and that the African countries were reflecting on the other countries around the world that gained independence. Not surprisingly, most of them did gained independence without any major problems because the colonial countries of Europe were all on the verge of economic collapse and were not able to sustain their colonies anymore.
