“Those who do not move, do not notice their chains.”
tigry1 [53]

Answer:

Those who do not move, do not notice their chains. ― Rosa Luxemburg

Rosa knew exactly what she was talking about.

You cant free people who don’t know they are enslaved…especially yourself. You cant shed old skin, old ways and old thoughts until you have something to replace it with. None but ourselves can free our minds

We have to believe we can break free, but before that we have to believe we are worthy of freedom

Sometimes we are chained by weight, or debt or addictions. Sometimes we are chained by our past hurts and pain. Sometime we are chained by our need for speed, need for stuff and things in our lives. More times than not we are chained by our own thoughts about who we are and who we think we can be.

These chains keep us from trying, from changing, from growing, from learning.

I know what I am talking about, because I was chained in so many areas of my life. My poor health, over stressed, fast lifestyle was a huge chain I wore for years. I was chained by poor choices and bad decisions that made my life and world view limited. I thought they were just pretty bracelets that every woman in my family had the pleasure of wearing. Shiny baubles of too many fatty foods, no exercise, too much pressure and caring for everyone in the world before myself. The chain of being the perfect woman, mother, nurturer and sister. The chain of giving everything to everybody even at the cost of my soul.

I think women in my family received these chains upon puberty

Being bound for so long, I lost hope. I thought this was life. Generation after generation of self sacrificing black woman. Such a cliche….

The reality was sometime. it was easier to stay stuck, stay small, stay shackled. The pain becomes normal I no longer noticed the chains. I even wore them with pride on occasion. The less I thought about my chains the more tolerable they became.

I had an option … I could continue to wear the chains and. follow the path before me or I could make choices that would have me walking anew path.

But here is the truth: we cant dance or sing or sit in the sunlight when shackled. We cant. truly laugh or love when chained

I did not want to die chained. I had to break my chains so I could live.

I had to be freed. The funny thing about freedom is it is very rarely given, most times it is fought for and won. I had to become my own example of struggle and redemption.

Into the Wild Chapter 7 journal:
Zanzabum

Answer:

Explanation:

1. Chris McCandless was a very smart, athletic young man. He went to college in Atlanta and was very smart and had a scholarship for there. He had a bad relationship with his parents and didn’t talk to them a lot. He did come from a well off family who was wealthy. He grew up with them in DC and he went to Emerton University. He was skinny, about 5 foot 8, and in good shape.  He decided to go off on a trip to Alaska to live in the wilderness for a while. He gave away all his money and possesions and he hitchhiked to Alaska to live there. He made it to Fairbanks and began his journey on the treacherous stampede trail.

2.Jon Krakauer introduces two main themes in the authors note. First he introduces the theme that young man have somewhat of an attraction toward doing dangerous things like how Chris went into the wilderness and tried to survive. Some other examples are high risk sports ( skydiving, rock climbing, diving.) another theme that is introduced is whether Chris was insane or was he doing good. Many people argued he was a idiot who though he could survive on his own. Others said he was immensely courageous and noble. Youll have to read the book and decide for yourself which one is right. There was also the theme of the grip the wilderness and the frontier has on the American imagination. Finally it brings up the parent relationships between father and son.

3. The purpose of the quoted material is to set up what is happening in the story. It shows the last human contact that Chris had other than meeting with Gallien. It also tells how he will not talk to any other humans and gives the famous quote “ and now I go into the wild”. It also shows that he knew he might die in the wild. It shows his last contact with a human.

4. Alex is really Chris McCandless, the guy who is going into the Alaskan wilderness. He just gave himself a different name but we don’t know why yet.

Authors note and first chapter

5. Jim Gallien is an Alaskan camper, hunter, hiker who gave Chris or Alex a ride. He saw him on the side of the road hitchhiking and gave him a ride to the beginning of the stampede trail. Something odd is that he though Chris looked like every other hitchhiker, something many others didn't think. He is also a electrician who works for the union.

Pg. 3-4

6. Gallien thought McCandless looked like any other traveler who thought he could handle the elements of the forest. He also thought he didn’t look crazy or anything but he looked very rugged because he had been hitchhiking for so long.

Pg. 3-4

7. Gallien tells McCandless to wear two pairs of socks and to take his food and boots. He says that this will keep his feet warm while he is out there.  He also said to call Gallien if anything went wrong. Finally he tells Chris to call his number to return the boots if he makes it back.

pg. 7

8. Gallien offered Chris his lunch his wife packed him and some socks. He also offered him some cash. McCandless said he didn’t need Galliens food or money but he did take the boots from gallien. They later found these boots when they found Chris's body.

Pg. 6-7

9. Gallien thought Chris would get hungry and leave the woods just like every other hiker that had come berfore him has. He decided that alerting the police would be useless then because Chris would just leave later. The thing was that Chris was not your average hitch hiker. He was special and could survive for a bit.Pg. 7

In Act II, Scene 4 of The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne and Peter have retreated to Peter’s room to escape the nervous tension creat
Andrews [41]

Answer:

The meaning behind the statement is that What is done cannot be undone. but that one can prevent it from happening again.

Explanation:

At a time when the Nazis sought to kill all the jews of Europe, Anne was an ordinary girl in an extraordinary time. The events recorded in Anne Franks diary took place during the World war 2. Both prior to the war and throughout the war years, The Nazis continously depicted the Jews as Sub-human and as vermin.

The Franks family had to go into hiding to avoid getting killed. Throughout the families time in hiding, Anne kept a diary of everything that happened. Anne retained a positive outlook on life even though she had to remain hiding.

She still believed that in spite of everything that people are truly good at heart. that what is done cannot be undone but that one can prevent it from happening again. in her words "dont think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains" and that who ever is happy will make others happy too.

Anne Franks believes that no matter what we maybe facing, that we should look up to the heavens and everything will be alright and that the cruelty will end and peace will return.

Asking if i will have the same sentiments about human nature; i would say yes. my reason being that we must continue believing in the best even when faced with the worst.
