They failed to accomplish their main goal: find an all-water route across the continent, but they DID succeed by finding new information about plants, animals, and Native Americans that were in the region! I hope this has helped!

The church used the indulgences as a way to get more money to the church, rich people would give land and big amounts of money to parishioners. Luther was strongly against it and for him, the indulgences were the last straw.
