The Border Ruffians were pro-slavery activists from the slave state of Missouri, who in 1854 to 1860 crossed the state border into Kansas Territory to force the acceptance of slavery there. The name was applied by Free-State settlers in Kansas and abolitionists throughout the North. Armed Ruffians interfered in territorial elections, and attacked Free-State settlements. This violence was the origin of the phrase "Bleeding Kansas". The Ruffians contributed to the growing sectional tensions, and helped bring on the American Civil War.

Who retreated in the Battle of Malvern Hill and why did he
kvasek [131]

Answer:

On July 1, 1862, the retreating Army of the Potomac reached the James River after six days of fighting outside of Richmond. Confident in the support of nearby navy gunboats, Maj. Gen. George McClellan’s men occupied Malvern Hill on the north bank of the river. McClellan ordered the hilltop fortified with artillery batteries to cover the open fields that fronted the hill, and arranged his infantry with the V Corps on the west slope and the III and IV Corps on the eastern side with a strong reserve in the rear. Confederate commander Gen. Robert E. Lee believed a sustained artillery barrage could weaken the Union position before his infantry attacked. Around 1:00 p.m., both sides opened an artillery duel which was largely ineffective. Lee ordered in his infantry, but the attacks were not coordinated properly and advanced at different times, stalling short of the hill’s crest. The Federal artillery was the deciding factor, repulsing every attack and resulting in a tactical Union victory. The next day, McClellan withdrew to Harrison’s Landing on the James, ending the Peninsula Campaign and the Seven Days battles to capture the Confederate capital.

Why did Africans resent colonial rule?
madreJ [45]
Africans resented colonial rule for numerous reasons. One was that their land and resources were being exploited which destroyed the land. Another was that they were being enslaved by the white people. Another was that there was an oligarchy where the few rich white people ruled over a vast majority of Africans and exploited them in every possible way.

The Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland was a federation of African territories which was a semi-independent British colony. Nowadays, the countries are known as Malawi and Zambia and Zimbabwe. It was ruled by white people even though the most white people ever that were there constituted only 3 percent of the population.

The arguments for federation were that they stabilize economy and help the land prosper which wouldn't be possible without things like trade and economic advancements and technological development. They also helped Britain through trading since they would be a colony that worked with them often.

The arguments against it are mostly revolving around the general anti-imperialist ideas. They were exploiting the people in mines and getting wealthy at the expense of the population. They were also destroying the area through heavy exploitation of the land and stripping the people of the natural resources while at the same time violating human rights.

As the time passed on, the sentiment of African nationalism started spreading more and more and people form the area started fighting for independence. They eventually managed to win it and turn it into the three countries that were previously mentioned which would be governed by the locals.
