Gandhi began in South Africa with his fight  for freedom. <span>In 1907, he had a campaign against the laws that made Indians register if they opted to reside in South Africa. He chose nonviolence simple because he believes that "truth is God and there is no way to find Truth except the way of nonviolence."</span>

The declaration gave the slaves the right to fight for freedom. The government also supported them by giving them the populace that gave them the different alignment of the undecided Virginians who were against the British.
