The 26th amendment was an important one, as it gave 18 year old American citizens the right to vote. Before this time, the voting age was 21. Many young citizens wanted this right to vote since the military draft was used during the era of the Vietnam War. Many 18 year olds were called to service due to the draft but yet did not have the political power to vote for representatives who shared their same views.
