You don't need to be so precise and say the month or the date because there's not that high of a chance that something would change in a newer edition from the same year.

You could always define what you mean by "things" give examples etc. If you are reffering to an object you could say item instead. If you are reffering to a task you could use the words tasks, activity, goals etc.
