In literature, the <u>main character</u> of a story is called the <u>protagonist</u>. He or she is the <u>main force</u> through which the author explores themes, emotional complexity, plot, and it also drives the story forward.

The<u> protagonist</u> commonly undergoes significant developments and conflicts that changes or transforms him/her.
