When he went away, I looked around me: three bare walls, a toilet, and a cot. Then I fell down on my knees in the middle of the

cell and started crying again. I didn’t know if anyone knew where I was or what had happened to me. I had no idea how long I would be there. I cried and I put my hands together and prayed like I had never prayed before.

It was important to include first- person point of view so that the reader could learn more about how Claudette felt about being arrested. For example, by including two points of view, the reader learns how Claudette felt after being arrested. The reader also learns what her mother was doing while Claudette was in jail.

Answer: It is important that this was written in first person, because first person lets the reader know what the character is feeling in there head. If the author wrote it in third person than the reader could not tell how they were feeling as well as they could when the text is written in first person.
