Which of these was one MAIN cause of the riots in Newark, New Jersey, and Detroit, Michigan?
Artemon [7]

Answer:

The correct answer is B) Poverty in the black communities

Explanation:

Racial tensions have persisted in the United States since it's inception and while various strides have been made for more inclusion racially charged riots have taken place throughout history.

In the 1967, as part of the larger 'Long hot Summer of 1967', major riots began occurred in cities throughout the country.

However, Newark, New Jersey and Detroit, Michigan saw some of the worst riots in the nation's history.

Both these cities were known to have a majority African-American population but civil control, including the politicians and the local law enforcement was comprised of White males.

Institutional racism was common which limited the access to good housing, jobs and education for African-Americans. This was forcing them into a cycle of poverty from which they could not escape.

In Newark, the riots started when an African-American was beaten up by the police. In Detroit, it started when the police raided an unlicensed bar.

Historian point out that both these riots erupted due to shrinking local economy in both cities and poverty in the black community which gave rise to disenfranchisement among the youth.

Martin Luther Kings’ “I have a dream…. ” speech is one of the most memorable speech’s of all time but why? In thi s essay we’ll have a look at why it’s such an effective speech. In the speech, King especially likes to use repetition and metaphors to convey his ideas. These devices are the foundation of King’s unique and effective style. Anaphora and repetition are commonly used in Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream…. ” speech because repeating the words and phrases helps to emphasise the pattern and increase the rhetorical effect.

I have a dream… ” is repeated in eight successive sentences, and is one of the most often cited examples of anaphora in modern speeches. Repetition is a good device to use to strengthen an important idea. He uses and repeats the words dream, because it is such a personal and deep commodity. Why was Birmingham chosen as the site for a major civil rights campaign?
Marysya12 [62]

Answer:  B) It was one of the most segregated cities in America.

Details:  In point of fact, Birmingham was known by reputation as "the most segregated city in America."  In his Letter from a Birmingham Jail, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said that he  had come to Birmingham because injustice existed there, in the same way that Old Testament prophets had left their own towns and villages to go and confront injustice in other towns in their day.

Birmingham also became a central point of focus because of a tragedy that had occurred there.  In September, 1963, the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham was bombed in an act of terrorism by Ku Klux Klan members. Four black girls (ages 11-14) were killed, and and fourteen other persons at the church were injured.  The bombing in Birmingham sparked the African American community into strong action in Alabama to push for the rights of black citizens.

Anna71 [15]
The issue that caused sectionalism to develop were more geographical. It is mainly because the people in the North was growing more into an industrialized society, that is why they had industrial interest, whereas the South are more focused on their agricultural development.
