You are shopping for carpet for your living room which measures 19 feet by 12 feet. Charlie's Carpets sells carpet for $18 per s

quare yard plus $2 per square yard for installation. This week Charlie's is giving 20% off the cost of the carpet only. Cindy's Carpet price is $18 per square yard installed, with a 10% sale. Where should you purchase your carpet and how much does it cost?

----------------------------
Charlie's Carpets:
----------------------------
Carpet : $18/yd
Installation: $2/yd

Discount: 20% x $18 = 0.2 x 18 = $3.60
Carpet Price after discount = $18 - $3.60 = $14.40/yd²

Carpet Price with installation $14.40 + $2 = $16.40/yd²

----------------------------
Cindy's Carpet
----------------------------

Carpet = $18/yd²

Discount = 10% = 0.1 x $18 = $1.80
Price after Discount = $18 - $1.80 = $16.20/yd²

----------------------------
Summary:
----------------------------
Charlie's Carpet = $16.40/yd²
Cindy's Carpet = $16.20/yd²

CIndy's Carpet is cheaper.

----------------------------
Find Cost:
----------------------------
Length = 19 x 1/3 = 19/3 yards
Width = 12 x 1/3 = 4 yards

19/3 x 4 = 25 1/3 yd²

Cost = 25 1/3 x $16.20 = $410.40

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer: Cindy's Carpet is cheaper and it will cost $410.40.

Cesar, Carmen, and Dalila raised $95.34 for their tennis team. Carmen raised $12.12 less than Cesar, and Cesar raised $35 more t
NeTakaya

Answer:

Cesar's amount can be expressed by x + 12.12

Dalila's amount can be expressed as  x - 22.88

Step-by-step explanation:

If Carmen raised 12.12.less than Cesar, that means his amount is 12.12 more than hers so that is <u>x + 12.12</u> for <u>Cesar</u>.

If  Cesar raised 35 more than Dalila, her amount is Cesar's minus 35. Calculate: x+12.12 - 35. the difference is 22.88 less than x  so the amount for <u>Dalila is x- 22.88</u>

Isabel wrote this mystery problem. The quotient is multiple of 6. The dividend is multiple of 9. The divisor is a factor of 12.
Marina86 [1]

Answer:

Consider the expression q=\frac{a}{b}. q is called the quotient, a is is the dividend and b is the divisor.

Since q is a multiple of 6, then q has the form q=6k for some integer k.

Since a is a multiple of 9, then a has the form a=9s for some integer s.

Since b is a factor of 12, then if 12 can be expressed of the form 12=c*b, for c an integer. Then b has the form b=\frac{12}{m}

Replacing the preview expression in the initial expression we obtain:

6k=\frac{9s}{\frac{12}{m}}=\frac{9sm}{12}\\6*12k=9sm\\72k=9sm\\72k-9sm=0

Then 72k-9sm=0,\; for \; k,s,m\in \mathbb{Z} is a equation to Isabel's problem.

I built a storage shed in the shape of a rectangular box on a square base. The material that I used for the base cost $4 per squ
kumpel [21]

Answer:

side of 6.124 ft and height of 3.674 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's s be the side of the square base and h be the height of the rectangular box.

The base and the roof would have an area of s^2 and cost of

4s^2 + 2s^2 = 6s^2

The sides would have an area of 4sh and cost of 4sh*2.5 = 10sh

So the total cost for the material is

6s^2 + 10sh = 450

10sh = 450 - 6s^2

h = 45/s - 0.6s

The volume of the shed has the following formula

V = s^2h = s^2(45/s - 0.6s) = 45s - 0.6s^3

To find the maximum value for V, we can take its first derivative, and set it to 0

\frac{dV}{ds} = 45 - 1.2s^2 = 0

1.2s^2 = 45

s^2 = 45 / 1.2 = 37.5

s = \sqrt{37.5} = 6.124 ft

h = 45/s - 0.6s = 3.674 ft
