pashok25 [27]

Answer: The main issues leading to the secession of the Southern States from the Union contributed to Slavery and state rights. Under the Constitution it claims every man(not including women) had the right of freedom and liberty, after Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president, many Southern states succeeded from the Union of fear of taking away enslavement. All but 5 enslaved states remained with the Union( Missouri Kentucky West Virginia Maryland and Delaware).

Explanation: Before the Civil War broke out, Abraham Lincoln won 40% of the popular votes, most Southern states had not even enlisted Lincoln’s name for a choice when it came to voting. South Carolina was the first to secede from the Union, due to Lincoln outlawing enslavement. After this event, many Southern States were pressured to join the new confederacy.
