It is the appeal made to an audience's emotions to bring feelings of pity or sadness.
The scenario of a child that is shown, covered by itchy bug bites after making use of an inferior bug spray is an example of Pathos because the scenario is meant to evoke pity and sadness for the child because of the sufferings and pain he is enduring as a result of making use of an inferior bug spray and having his body covered by itchy bug bites.
