According to "The Philosophy of Composition", why did Poe choose "neverore" as the refrain in "The Raven"?
horsena [70]

The correct answer is B. Because a one-word refrain is less difficult than a long refrain.

The refrain in Poe's 'The Raven' consists of one word only because of its brevity (shortness). This is what Poe wrote in his The Philosophy of Composition (a text about how he went about writing this poem):

Since its application was to be repeatedly varied it was clear that the refrain itself must be brief [...] This led me at once to a single word as the best refrain.

Write a letter to my sister who just gain admission to my former school telling her about the school and advicing her on how to
tresset_1 [31]

Answer:

Hello little sister,

I hope you are doing fine. I'm very happy about your admission to what was my school. I'm sure you are going to have a great time and, as your big sister, I will give you some advice to have the best experience in school.

The school is big, so if you have classes in the laboratory that is on the second floor, on the far end, I suggest you take the stairs that are on the left and then turn the right. You will be walking in a hallway that is usually deserted, which is great because if you are late for Biology, you can take this shortcut. Also, the best parking lot is on the left side near the school's door, there is shade, and they are close to the entrance, but they are hard to get, so be sure to be early to leave first.

As regards the teachers and staff, Mr. Smith, the Math teacher, is very strict. He appreciates participation in class and neat handwriting. Another important thing is to not be in the gym after 2:00 pm. The basketball team is there and the coach does not allow anyone in, this could get you in trouble, so be careful. Finally, be respectful to all your teachers and pay attention in class to pass your exams and have a great time there.

I hope that these tips are useful and that you have a great year in that wonderful school.

Best wishes,

Your sister.

Explanation:

As it is a letter to your sister, it has to be in an informal and friendly style.

The letter aims to help your little sister, and as you have attended the same school, you can give her a lot of tips and suggestions that will make her days there easier.

These suggestions have to be in a friendly way and useful for her. She might be a little lost in this new school, but she has the advantage of knowing someone that has already gone there and can help her.
