Depth of field is the distance between the closest and farthest objects in a photo that appears acceptably sharp. Now your camera can only focus sharply at one point. But the transition from sharp to unsharp is gradual, and the term 'acceptably sharp' is a loose one!
zoom the lens in to enlarge the subject and move a little closer to the subject finally, switch to aperture-priority mode and select a large aperture like f/4
it most likely has actual texture since you are using sticks. that is what I would think because I am a painter and I use a lot of implied texture since acrylic doesn't have much texture itself.
