Christmas in Michigan: In Michigan, people celebrate Christmas on December 25, and they have Christmas Eve on the 24th. Santa Claus is associated and linked to Christmas in the Michigan, and all of the US. Instead of performing Posadas, many people, not just in Michigan, go and do some caroling with friends and family. Americans decorate their homes with lights, wreaths, etc.
Christmas in Mexico: In Mexico, Christmas is celebrated from the 12th of December to Jaunary 6th. Children often perform the "Posada" (Which means lodging). There are nine Posadas. It's basically an event where a small child dresses up in an angel outfit and proceeds and procession. For the Posadas, the outside of the home is decorated with evergreens, moss, and paper lanterns. Traditionally, the kids in Mexico don't recieve presents from Santa Claus. However, his popularity is enlarging there, so because of that, some children will recieve gifts on the 24th of December and on the 25th. And then recieve more gifts on January 6th for Dia de Reyes.
Similarities:
They both recieve gifts, either way, Christmas and Dia de Reyes is an opportunity for family and friends to spend time with each other. Some of the children in Mexico, still celebrate Christmas. Both holidays have some link to Baby Jesus. So I guess you can say that both holidays have some religious background to it.
