Perhaps you can start by a worm works its way around the dirt sneakily, than suddenly gets uprooted by a bird. Then later on in the story, your main character who lies often ends up getting caught in a string of lies, and someone catches him on one of the lies, causing all of his lies to collapse in on him, making the analogy of the main character being the worm.
