The trombone's ancestor was a medieval instrument called the sackbut. Developed in the 15th century, the sackbut looked quite like the trombone; however, its bore was narrower and its bell not quite as wide.
So basically, A sackbut is a just a type of trombone that was from the Baroque and Renaissance eras, it was used more in the Renaissance era to create music. This trombone is distinguished by a telescopic "slide" which is just used differenciate the length of the tube, in order to change pitch. The name of it can also be translated to "push-pull", the actions you do while using the trombone.
