The symphonic poem was created by Franz Liszt. A symphonic poem, as its names implies, is a piece of orchestral composition which is inspired by a poem, a painting, or a short story or novel, or any inspiration which comes from a source other than music. Both the term and the kind of composition were invented by Franz Liszt. Franz Liszt was a Hungarian romantic composer and pianist born in 1811. One example of a symphonic poem by Liszt is Les Préludes, which is the third of the thirteen symphonic poems Liszt composed.
