How did the assassination of Martin Luther King effect society as a whole?

It affected the society because Martin Luther King was a very good leader who wasn't afraid of advocating for human rights, especially Black people human rights. When he got killed, that affected the society because people feared that if they advocated for people rights, they would get shot and killed just as MLK did.
