Let the one number be x.

Then,another number = x + 8

According to the question ,

Sum of the two numbers is 166. [ Given ]

$\sf\implies \: x + x + 8 = 166$

$\sf \implies \: 2x + 8 = 166$

$\sf \implies \: 2x = 166 - 8$

$\sf\implies \: 2x = 158$

$\sf \implies \: x = \cancel \dfrac{158}{2}$

$\sf \implies \: x = 79$

One number = x = 79

Another number = x + 8 = 79 + 8 = 87
