Although England had a superior and more experienced army led by professional military men, the 13 colonists had some advantages that in the end, represented the victory over England. The colonies formed the Continental Army led by General George Washington. The troops were not experienced and were not professional soldiers, but instead, they were brave Americans that fought for an ideal: to defend their land and right to grow and prosper without the oppression of the British crown. Furthermore, they knew the territory and that became an important factor.
