In addition to the woman's expressive face, her children are laying on her and hugging her--they're perhaps crying--they're perhaps just seeking the love of their mother at a difficult time...Either way, the children laying on the woman expresses the comfort and warmth of maternal love as well as the innocence and helplessness of childhood.
