There are two people holding on to the edge of a cliff. One is your mother, one is your grandfather. The cliff is weak under the three of you so you only have time to save one person. Who would you save? I would try to figure out who is more at risk, and I would consider the condition of both my mother and my grandfather. In the end I would either try to save both and risk the death of all three of us, or save my mother who is young and healthy.

The author wants you to know the purpose of the quote or title he puts in it “The Red umbrella”
Explanation:
Red is a color of beauty and an umbrella is the resistance to sky's and humans' attacks.
The best way would probably be " Your dog can learn from sitting to rolling over to begging for food."
So, the hook usually comes right at the beginning. It's the sentence that's the most provocative or surprising.
I'd say that's the first sentence in the paragraph. Doesn't it want to make you keep reading to find out more? (Assuming any interest at all in the topic, of course.)
