alexander certainly was ambitious enough to taste a victory over magadh, but for that he would have to cross river ganges and it was not like crossing of river sindh which had one narrow part. ganges was all very deep river and currents used to be very high. so, it was pretty hard to cross river they didn't have good ships so as to support them. moreover nandas were ruling those days the area which was called magadh. there military excellency, innovations exceeded greeks and all part of known world. they were not at all peaceful dynasties more like warheaded people. even if alexander crossed the river he would find magadh army waiting for them to butcher them mercilessly without even warning. they so feared it that they ceased to move any more. india was by far most developed country of ancient world in every aspects and magadh was supreme over those aspects.
