Latitude and longitude are used to locate positions by using degrees of how far away they are from either the equator (latitude) or the Greenwich Meridian (longitude).

Explanation:

This is an example that I looked up to help explain it but the Empire State Building is 40.7484° N, 73.9857° W - meaning that using latitude and longitude, we can go 40.7484 degrees north and 73.9857 degrees west.
