This is true. Not that they were intolerant to Muslims or Jews but rather there were not that many immigrants who were not Christians in the early period of colonization. Christianity was tolerated and while Puritans did not tolerate differences, there were colonies for Protestants and Catholics as well.
He is trying to tell that the issue of peace is everyone’s
concern. It is their duty to help others
if they expect the same kind of help in the future. He was urging the American people that the
time for isolation is at an end and they must make a choice for it is only a
matter of time before this war will come at their doorsteps.
