1. Since the British were lacking money and and army, (due to their defeat in Yorktown) Benjamin Franklin was able to convince the British to make peace with the U.S., and made them sign the Treaty of Paris which gave the colonists independence.

2. The colonies would establish a democratic government and assign a president to lead the country.
