Combination reaction occur in condensation while hydrolysis involves decomposition reaction.

Further explanation

Condensation

Such a chemical reaction in which small reactant molecules synthesize complex molecules is known as condensation reaction and these small molecules are then released as a reaction byproduct. HCl molecule, methanol and water can be small molecule.

Condensation reactions

It is a reaction in which single molecule is formed by two molecules. During condensation water molecules are removed.  Amino acids are significant natural particles that have a functional amine group on one side of molecule and a functional carboxylic group on the opposite end. At the point when two amino acids join in a buildup response, a covalent bond frames between the amine nitrogen of one amino acid and the carboxyl carbon of the second amino acid. A particle of water is then expelled as a subsequent item.

Esterification

An esterification is an example of condensation reaction. where an ester is formed by carboxylic acid and alcohol. Esterification is a subcategory of this reaction in light of the fact that a water atom is delivered in the response. The response is catalyzed sulfuric acid. The ester methyl butanoate is produced When the carboxylic acid butanoic acid is heated with an excess of methanol and a few drops of sulfuric acid.

Hydrolysis

It is a process of chemical decomposition in which water is used to break chemical bonds of substances. Acid and enzymatic are two types of hydrolysis.

Types of hydrolysis

There are three common types.

  1. Salts
  2. Acid
  3. Base

Hydrolysis reaction involved in living organisms

Hydrolase enzyme catalysis these reactions. Such biochemical reactions which split the polymers, like proteins, nucleotides, starch and fats are catalyzed by these enzymes.  These enzymes include amylases, proteinases hydrolyze fats and sugars.

Hydrolysis is equals to hydro which means water plus lysis which means splitting. Therefore, hydrolysis means splitting/breaking a chemical bond by the addition of water (H2O). More accurately, it is by the introduction of the elements that make up water which are hydrogen and oxygen. Simple example of hydrolysis reaction is an ester is hydrolyzed into an alcohol and a carboxylic acid. Condensation on the other hand is the opposite of hydrolysis. Condensation occurs when two Hydrogen and one Oxygen are LOST from a compound or compounds during the reaction. Most often this occurs when 2 reactants form one product were bond between them being formed by the concerted loss of water (H2O). Condensation example is an alcohol + a carboxylic acid -> ester + H2O.

Explanation:

The first diagram represents the electron configuration of a carbon dioxide molecule.

Carbon dioxide as gaseous covalent molecule made up of two oxygen atoms and one central carbon atom:

               CO₂

Carbon dioxide has linear structure with a bond angle of 180°.

 In carbon dioxide, the atoms are covalent bonded.

The central atom is carbon and it joins up with two oxygen atoms.

The carbon has 4 valence electrons that goes into bonding in pairs. The oxygen atom has 6 valence electrons.

In order to complete their octet, they share their outermost electrons in the manner shown in the first diagram.

Living organisms cannot use heat to provide the activation energy for biochemical reactions because
Otrada [13]

Considering the following;

I. Heat is not readily available to all living cells.

II. Heat at excessive amounts denatures proteins.

III. Heat does not provide the activation energy for their reactions.

IV. When a critical temperature is reached, proteins no longer function

Answer;

I and IV

Explanation;

Living cells cannot use heat to provide the activation energy for biochemical reactions because heat is not readily available to all living cells and also when a critical temperature is reached, proteins no longer function.

Too much heat can kill an organism by rendering its organelles, cells, tissues and organs permanently inoperable and un-salvageable. The same process can be observed in tissues at low temperatures, and is the cause of frostbite. This is because enzymes are denatured by high temperature and inactivated by low.
